Microsoft Bing to Power Yahoo! Search

search 2

As I discussed in a previous post, I'm a semi-fan of the Bing.com search engine. They lack the authority algorithm which has made Google's results all in all very good. To top it off Microsoft has convinced Yahoo! to commit to 10-years! This is crazy. Why wouldn't Yahoo! commit to 3-years, or 5-years 0n the high-end. By committing to 10-years, Yahoo! has essentially given up on Search. Yahoo! has a better search engine than Bing. I just hope Bing gets better. This is a dirty blow to searchers worldwide. I do like Microsoft as I've said in earlier posts. But, Bing.com needs some work. BAD. Read more on Yahoo! News – http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/20090729/ap_on_hi_te/us_microsoft_yahoo.

I am for sure a fan of the bing and yahoo merger and believe that the move will be a positive for both companies on many levels. i am to a little taken back that yahoo has taken that kinda commitment. I understand your concern for the less worthy search engine in terms of algorithms and results. I would think that they could capitalize on the billions and billions of dollars that they have spent on the yahoo engine by merging it with bing’s algorithm even if they underweight the influence. Could that not work even if it was just a temp plug in or add on type of deal?

That could be part of the deal actually – not sure, but Bing doesn’t do a good job of understanding website authority… hopefully we don’t go from one great engine, one good engine, and one okay engine to one great engine and one okay engine…

Just saw this comment – merging algorithms is probably not possible. The code base is too different. Basically, they will be taking Bing’s algo as is.
