While spending a lot for your online business to get superior visibility in the search engine results page might seem unnecessary, there is actually a huge benefit to it. Business is, after all, about taking risks, and that is what you need to do to earn profit.

Running search engine optimization on your business may not be enough, as there are three particular strategies you need to integrate for it to become a surefire success.

Here are three tips you need to ponder on:

Monitor your total SEO impact. Check both your “macro” (lead capture and sales) and “micro” conversions (number of page views, clicks on a site’s area and asset/document downloads). Not only does your site need to drive sales, but it also needs to drive business value.

Project your SEO-driven content’s value. Provide what your visitors need – those things that you do not have and already have but are called by a different name. That way, you fill in the gaps and satisfy their needs, thus creating incremental “value” from the conversions.

Become the conventional media buzz’s “harvester” when it comes to searches. Make use of your web analytic skills to assess the influence of conventional media vehicles when they hit the market. Find out what users find useful on your website – the services or products they are into – and what search engines operate the mainstream television or print placement lift in traffic. When you have a solid brand recognition, chances are they will go to your website or key your brand name to a search engine.

If you simply run search engine optimization for maintenance purposes, this maybe the right time to examine the total value of the business you have. Once you use search engine optimization along with all the analytics and media that you utilize, you will get what your budget asked for. Only after you have done this will you be able to justify the significant amount of investment that you put into SEO.

Just this September, Yahoo released a new search suggestion assistance feature that allows logged in users to get location oriented suggestions. This takes user location into consideration when recommending search queries, which in turn makes searching efforts easier, faster and more relevant with just a few keystrokes.

This is not particularly new, though, as other search engines have been using this service in their search suggestion feature for quite some time now. Google, for one, has already received relatively good feedback for its physical location component.

Despite the new enhancement in Yahoo search, the question remains as to what would become of website owners who rely on search engines to get web traffic for better SEO. There are actually two things that they need to know; what signals users are receiving prior to completing their search query, and what challenges they would need to face and overcome. These local search recommendations have the potential to make or break their search traffic from the search engine. Thus, it is important to keep up with any changes in the Internet space when dealing with SEO.
In the PPC (pay per click) management aspect of search engine optimization, reports say that it can return good results. The Yahoo search functionality for keyword coverage and research actually has the capacity to determine coverage on particular keyword types.

On the part of the site owners, it is essential to have visibility on such keywords if a user goes through a chosen key term, despite selecting it unintentionally. They can do research on their ranking key phrases and find out if users are being advised with local options. Otherwise, they can wait and see what the impact of the suggestions will be, or whether there is a drop in the non-local key phrases or an increase in the locally suggested ones.

Although it will take awhile before your online business becomes the most sought after site on the Web, doing SEO is quite easy because of its basic principle, which is to promote website visibility in the SERPs. Yet it is also easy to screw things up and blow thousands of dollars.

To avoid these mistakes, consider the reliable strategies below and begin developing excellent search engine optimization for your business site.

Make your business stand out. Being unique, creative and original are the keys to online marketing. It is important to not redo something that has already been done by others; otherwise, your work will only be second best.

Promote your site to social media and network sites. Google is fond of social content, as they now index real-time updates from Twitter and other websites. If your article is trending or getting several retweets from well-known Twitter users, chances are the article will begin ranking faster and higher.

Write relevant and good content. When your website contains significant and helpful content, there are increased chances for it to rank high in search engine results pages. It is also easier for you to collect sites that link to your pages, thus adding more boost to your ranking. Likewise, it is advisable to update your content frequently, as readers like receiving fresh content from dependable sites. The more visits you receive, the more links you get to your content; this will then gain you more traffic.

Lastly, use the best possible medium for your website. In terms of content management system, get a good one that assists you in the majority of your onsite search engine optimization, such as WordPress. If you have a CMS that works for you, then there is more time to focus on other SEO endeavors like developing significant inbound links.

Practice these strategies and pump up your site’s visibility in no time.

HTML5 is the latest Hypertext Markup Language form that has become quite popular in such a short time. Modern browsers are now beginning to support HTML5 rendering without having any problems. A rival of the Adobe Flash, it is commonly used in smart phone browsers (like the iPhone) and particular websites.

Despite its popularity, questions regarding search engine optimization and crawling are being raised. Some are skeptical about getting additional factors from the language to provide an extra boost in the SERPs; some worry that it could damage their SEO endeavors; and some doubt if Google can even crawl HTML5.

To shed light on the queries, Google’s John Mu explained the pros and cons of using HTML5 at the Webmasters forum.

According to Mu, Google will have to wait to find out how content is marked up on the Internet. If HTML5 is being frequently used – with its markup providing relevant details and it causing no problems if wrongly used – then Google will include it into the algorithms. Yet in the meantime, there is still much work to be done. It can be of good use to users, but not so much to crawlers and SEO.

“While this will not result in an advantage for your content in our search results, it generally wouldn’t be disadvantageous either,” he concluded.

Thus, using HTML5 for search engine optimization and crawling is not yet recommended. At the same time, to design one’s online site using the markup language will not at all provide one’s site an added increase in the rankings, as it is not extensively implemented. For now, it is advisable to use XHTML/HTML4 for SEO efforts, like what most users have been doing.

What do you get when you combine television viewing with Internet? Google TV.

The latest in television technology, Google TV is co-developed by Logitech, Sony, Intel, and Google. It lets you watch TV programs on the Internet via a Blu Ray player or HDTV.

Launched last October 17th, Google TV caused a lot of buzz when its developers first announced the smart TV in May 2010. Now that it’s finally here, people can’t wait to check out this new advancement in entertainment technology.

Google TV is considered a preview of what televisions in the future would be like. It puts different entertainment sources into one platform. Online television, cable, YouTube, and Netflix are integrated into a single HD television. Can you ask for anything more?

On the other hand, there is one more feature many of us would surely love, and that’s cost-effectiveness? We already have huge TVs taking up an entire wall in our living room. Adding software to your existing TV would probably cost less than buying a brand new device. Plus, if you consider the fact that you can buy a 24-inch for $600 and a 46-inch for $1400 from the same brand (Sony), Google TV is really a pricey addition to your home entertainment system.

These facts tell us that the devices we use for entertainment are already costly. Yet, we continue to purchase such luxuries. Thus, there’s still no denying the marketing opportunities and potentials of Google TV.

This kind of technology is still in its infancy, so it’s quite hard to figure out whether Google TV will be a success or a failure. Once the initials issues are straightened out, this piece of technology should be interesting enough to attract a significant market base.

Google Webmaster Tools has recently introduced a couple of new features that provide webmasters with more details and more control over how their website shows up in search results. Read on for more information on these new changes.

Search Queries

Google believes that your website shouldn’t stand still. Thus, they have added a “Change” column beside the average position, click through rate (CTR), clicks, and impressions columns. This will make it easier for you to monitor trends in each of these important factors. The change column corresponds to a certain time frame you specify, and this should let you determine when a particular change happened.

In addition, there’s now a query details page for every specific query. The page includes chart of impressions as well as clicks for that certain query. Thus, you have a graphic presentation of the query’s performance in search results.

Starred Messages

Some websites get so many messages stored in the Webmaster Tools Message Center. Sometimes, if they build up, you may not be able to find the time to read all of them. You may also receive very important ones, and want to mark and prioritize them. For this reason, Google has added the “star” feature so that you can easily spot messages that you consider important.

Better Parameter Handling

This feature now has its own tab under the Webmaster Tools’ Settings section. What’s more is that Google has introduced a new option that lets you easily manage parameters. The ignore option allows you to specify whether a page should be ignored by Google’s crawlers. This feature is useful if you want to tell Google that a certain parameter doesn’t affect your displayed content. At the same time, Google doesn’t have to crawl within a certain page over and over again, which can create duplicates.

For instance, if two pages with the same URL have the same content, you can indicate which webpage the Google spiders should ignore.

Another new feature involves being able to choose a certain value among all the values of a URL parameter. For example, if you have multiple pages of content and want to tell Google to index a certain parameter, you can now have the pages sorted in a specific way, such as by price, oldest or newest. Here’s one example from Google’s blog:

http://example.com/shop.php?category=candy&sort-by=asc-price&page=1
http://example.com/shop.php?category=candy&sort-by=desc-price&page=1
http://example.com/shop.php?category=candy&sort-by=asc-price&page=2
http://example.com/shop.php?category=candy&sort-by=desc-price&page=2

The items in these pages can be arranged by price, whether in descending or ascending order.

Improved Link Reports

One other updated feature of Google Webmaster Tools is the “Links to your site” section. Now, you can see which domains are linked the most to your website. The overview page will show you three sections: one is for the domains that link the most to your website, another is for the pages on your website with the most links, and a third is for anchor text other websites use to link to your site.

Moreover, each of these three sections can be expanded to reveal more listings. By clicking “More” under the section “Who links the most,” for example, you will see a full list of the domains that link to your website.

Google has presented so many improvements lately. Pull up your Webmaster Tools account now to check them out yourself.

When you’re in the search advertising industry, you may want to reach customers operating outside your physical location. This may mean reaching another city, state or even country. Though there are many marketing strategies that can help you reach customers in those places, the problem is that you may not be able to see the locally targeted ads of those areas. This is where Google AdWords’ Ad Preview Tool comes in.

The Ad Preview Tool allows you to test your ads to see them in different geo-graphic locations. Additionally, you can also test your ads without affecting your quality score. Testing ads through Google.com without using an ad preview tool can actually make unnecessary impressions of your ads, thus your click through rate (CTR) drops. Always remember to use Google’s Ad Preview Tool when testing your ads.

If you go to the website for the preview tool, you’ll notice that there’s a link to a new version at the upper left corner. Google has updated and improved their ad preview feature to make the tool more streamlined. So, what’s new? If you go to the new version, you’ll notice that you no longer have to enter the Google domain. Instead, there’s a drop-down arrow that provides a list of all the Google domains. Also, you don’t have to enter coordinates.

The updated version also prompts you to sign in to your Google account to see the information. Other than that, the old and new versions are really the same… except that the new look’s greenish color looks cooler than the old one’s boring gray theme.

Advancements in technology have enabled people to shop from the comfort of their homes. Thanks to the popularity of the iPhone, Android, and other smartphones, people can now shop even while bored at work, on the train or commuting home. Mobile phone shopping is rising in popularity. If you want to explore this opportunity to sell, there are several ways to get the attention of potential mobile shopping buyers. Here are a few tips.

Ensure a Fully Functional, Working Website

There’s nothing worse than finally getting a buyer hooked, and then kicking them out just when they were about to buy simply due to a website glitch. Make sure that your website can be readily accessed from a mobile phone. This will also help you have customers that will keep on coming back.

Rank Well in Local Mobile Search

When people shop from their phone, it may already be obvious that they’re out and nowhere near the computer at home. Hence, if they can’t find your website on their mobile phones, chances are they’ll move on and choose your competitors instead.

Encourage Them to Join Your Mailing List

This one is quite easy. All you have to do is ask your buyers and website visitors their email address. Then, send them a list of top items or an online catalog every week. When such updates show up in their phones, there’s a good chance that they’ll check out your products whenever they can.

Network

Social media marketing can be an effective marketing tool. By having so many online friends and “likes,” you can spread information about your products, services, special offers or discounts to a larger community. A good thing about using social networking platforms is that the ads people receive are recommended by someone they’re connected with. Since most trust their friends better more than they trust ads, don’t hesitate to use social media channels.

By combining all these methods—emailing, networking and performing well in search engines—you can make the most of shopping via cell phone. So give these marketing strategies a try before your competitors beat you to it.

In an effort to refine further local search, Google has made some aggressive changes. The person responsible for these changes may be Marissa Mayer, one of the original 20 employees of Google who has just been appointed leader of the location services unit. Read on for more information on these significant changes.

Goodbye 7 Pack, Hello Place Search

One of the biggest changes is how local results are presented. Google has recently rolled out Place Search, which is basically the incorporation of Places into the search results. Places will automatically be included in the results once Google detects that the user is looking for local information. It works just as how the search engine detects your intention when looking for local information using general terms. So for example, if you’re looking for a pizza joint or a museum, the search will yield local results because of the local nature of your search.

The most obvious thing you’ll notice about the new presentation is the bevy of details included in the search results. Top results will be complete with pictures, links, reviews, contact information, etc.

The new presentation has completely eliminated the 7 Pack. Furthermore, since the algorithm for Places Search relies on the Place Pages, your website may get left behind if you don’t have a Place Page yet. Some businesses, especially smaller ones, may eventually suffer the consequences of the new changes. Consider completing a Place Page for your organization now.

Place Search aims to improve the experience of both the Internet user and the website owner. The detailed information will make users feel like they are locals everywhere they go. At the same time, this will improve efforts in local listing optimization.

Place Page Organizes Reviews

Most consumers are always after good quality products and services. Google clearly has considered this to make the decision making process easier for users. Just a simple search can bring you a single page filled with an array of establishments plus their reviews. Google has pulled and identified reviews from various websites and summed them all up to give general reviews to each establishment.

Moreover, there are now two sections for reviews. One of the sections is called “Reviews from around the Web,” and the other is called “Reviews by Google users.”

A good thing about the review sections is that they highlight the importance of receiving many positive reviews.

Google Places Removes Web URL Tag Option

Many were sad to see the free Web URL tag option go after Google decided to remove it. It was very useful and popular among business owners. Everyone was surprised that it was removed. However, it took only a couple of days for Google to bring the feature back and with it a $25 a month charge!

The good news is that there’s a 30-day warning and it’s priced at $25 per month. On the other hand, this new price tag—as with all other costs—needs to be considered carefully by entrepreneurs.

Change Your Location Easily

Last but not the least of these major changes is the location section. You can now easily change your location simply by entering your address at the left side menu below the other popular search options. When entering your location, Google recommends including your zip code so that you can target your demographic better. While it’s just a little change, this new feature confirms the fact that Google gives much importance to local search.

Google continues to make changes here and there to improve local search and businesses. All these changes put together further solidifies Google’s hold on the search engine industry.

Small businesses have been given a boost in SERPs as Google recently launched a promising ad program for local search. Google Boost is a location-based ad service that allows you to build a local search advertisement that will appear on the sponsored links section of the search results page.

In Google Maps, the new advertising service will also give your business a blue arrow instead of the generic red arrow to set your establishment apart from others.

As of now, the program is in beta only in Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco, but will roll out to other cities eventually.

The ads can include different information, such as business name, offered products or services, phone number, and address. The ad can also contain star ratings and number of reviews.

Boost ads can be created through your Google Places account. The initial setup is easy. Just enter a brief company description and set a budget, and then Google will take care of the rest—the system will automatically set up the ad campaign by finding relevant keywords that will help your ad show up on Google.com and Google Maps. The system will also help you maximize the budget you set.

A great thing about the new advertisement program is that you will pay only when a potential buyer clicks on your advertisement. Plus, since you can set a budget, you don’t have to pay more than what you initially planned.

Google Boost is another one of Google’s online marketing tools, but it shouldn’t be considered a replacement for Google AdWords. Nonetheless, Boost will be very beneficial to small businesses and other companies that use little PPC advertising.
